While driving on a freezing cold night in Ontario, Canada, a good samaritan spotted something that made her stop.
Curled up on a snowy roadside was a shivering stray dog, which unfortunately isn’t too out of the ordinary… but she wasn’t alone.
On that freezing cold night, this good girl was found curled up and wrapped around a litter of orphaned kittens.
It wasn’t at all the safest place for the pup to spend the night, but looking after the baby kittens was clearly her main priority.
The Good Samaritan saved them all from the freezing night by taking them to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue shelter.
By then, the momma dog and the orphaned kittens had already formed an incredible bond.
For the rescue staff, learning the circumstances of this case made one thing clear: the pup had saved the kittens’ lives.
“It’s truly heartwarming. It had been a very cold night so these kittens would have had a very hard time surviving.”
The kittens are now in safe hands and are doing fine, however, they require treatment for flea and worm infestations.
Meanwhile, the adorable stray dog who saved them insists on overseeing their progress with regular visits a lot like a proud momma.
The kittens may be orphaned, but they certainly have a new mother.
Thanks to this brave sweet dog, a sad ending turned into a good one, five lives were saved, and six pets may now get new homes.
“Our staff sees many difficult situations on a daily basis and stories like this one make every heartache worth it,” the shelter said.
