Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino could be ready to take the Chelsea job – with Graham Potter’s future in doubt if he can’t beat Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening
Mauricio Pochettino reportedly has his eyes on the Chelsea job should the Blues relieve Graham Potter of his duties in the near future.
Pochettino, who is best remembered for his spell at Blues rivals Tottenham Hotspur, has been out of work since he was axed by PSG in July. And he could be back in work with the Blues, thanks to Potter’s poor start.
Potter walked away from Brighton to join the Blues, after they sacked Thomas Tuchel in September. The Englishman has struggled to turn things around, and according to The Sun, Pochettino could be waiting in the wings.
Potter’s future at Chelsea is already under the microscope as they find themselves tenth in the Premier League, and out of both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
The Blues were played off the park by Manchester City over the weekend, just days after they had dropped three points to the same opposition. And reports now suggest Thursday’s clash with Fulham could be Potter’s last.
Chelsea are in desperate need of three points as they travel to Craven Cottage – who are also ahead of them in the table.
Potter said over the weekend: “The first half was painful and tough for us all. We were second best to a very, very good side. We are not in a great moment.
“In terms of the Premier League, we have lost four matches – to Newcastle away, when we had nine players unavailable, we lost 1-0 to Arsenal, we lost on a bad day to Brighton and we lost to City…so the results in a small space of time aren’t positive.
“You can make excuses and look for reasons or say it isn’t good enough. Both of those answers are correct. We have to keep improving and stick together because clearly we are suffering as a football club and it’s not nice at all. But that’s where we are at the moment.”
