Manchester United considering sending Facundo Pellistri out on loan

Manchester United will meet with Facundo Pellistri’s agents this week to discuss the possibility of a loan move to increase his playing time.

Watford are among the clubs interested in signing Pellistri temporarily, but the 21-year-old is not thought to be keen on a move to the Championship side.

Pellistri also has clubs in Spain weighing up an approach, including Valencia.

United are said to be undecided about the exact course of action, with Erik ten Hag stating how Pellistri could make a contribution to the first team during the second half of the season.

Pellistri made his debut for United nearly two-and-a-half years after joining during a substitute appearance against Charlton Athletic in the League Cup quarter-final.

He enjoyed an eventful cameo, setting up Marcus Rashford with a neat run and pass, and helping out defensively too, at one stage winning the ball back in United’s box and dribbling away from danger.

The meeting between United executives and Pellistri’s camp will help determine how everyone sees the situation. Pellistri is an excellent trainer and presence at Carrington but wants to play more frequently.

Football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher, who has an influential role on loans, will discuss the matter with Ten Hag.

After the game against Charlton, Ten Hag said: “I see a future in him. He’s doing really well and we have to see what is the best. You see he is progressing.”

Pellistri signed for United in a £9 million transfer from Penarol in October 2020 and has experienced two loan spells at Alaves in La Liga.

He has 10 caps for Uruguay and started two matches at the World Cup in Qatar, coming on in another.
