Margot Robbie revealed her bizarre connection to The Suicide Squad co-star John Cena on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Robbie, 31, was joined by Cena, 44, and their director, James Gunn, on the late-night program Wednesday night, where they spoke with guest host Anthony Anderson.
The blonde actress, who returns as Harley Quinn in the new movie, in theaters August 6, revealed she used to sleep in the same room as… a cut-out of Cena.
Robbie revealed she watched WWE when she was growing up and she, ‘loved the Undertaker,’ but she stopped watching as a teenager.
‘But then as a late teen, early 20s, I had a boyfriend who was obsessed with John Cena,’ she said with a laugh.
She added he was so obsessed, ‘that he dressed as John Cena for his 21st birthday and had a cardboard cutout of John Cena in his bedroom.’
‘I slept in a room for two years with a life-sized cardboard cutout of John Cena in the room,’ she said, adding, ‘Sometimes I’d wake up in the middle of the night and be like — oh, it’s just John Cena, it’s okay.’
She added that, once she realized she was going to work with him, she pondered whether or not to tell that story.
‘Is that going to be weird? I thought, I’m going to keep that to myself, I’m not going to tell him that would be a weird way to start our working relationship and friendship. Then five seconds into meeting him, “I used to sleep in a room with a life-sized cutout of you,”‘ she said.
Cena joked that, ‘In my defense, I more than likely was wearing jean shorts,’ when Anderson surprised him with a life-sized carboard cutout of Robbie in her, with Robbie joking he has to sleep with that in his room for two years, ‘to level the playing field.’
Director Gunn joked, ‘It’s weird, because my girlfriend always makes me put on a cutout of John Cena before we make love.
Robbie added that she had a ‘pet rat’ when making the first Suicide Squad movie, which lead Anderson to reveal a photo of the rat named Rat-Rat, drinking a bottle of beer.
‘He liked beer and bath time. Then the landlord of the place I was renting found out I had a rat and said Rat-Rat had to go. So Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang, said I’ll take Rat-rat.
She added Courtney’s landlord, ‘wasn’t cool with that,’ so they gave him to a costumer who ended up giving Rat-Rat to director Guillermo del Toro, whose daughters have pet rats.
‘In the end, Rat-Rat is a bit of a star-f***er, really,’ Robbie said.
