Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has developed a signature move, experienced by everyone from Kylian Mbappé to Thiago. It may have just given a transfer ‘hint’.
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp was reportedly spotted hugging one of Wolves’ players in the aftermath of the 2-2 draw in the FA Cup third round.
That’s according to Paul Joyce of The Times, who states that Liverpool’s German coach could be seen embracing potential transfer target Matheus Nunes at the conclusion of the game at Anfield.
The 2-2 draw means a replay at Molineux in the coming weeks. But with speculation that Liverpool is interested in Nunes (via The Telegraph) already in the public domain, news of Klopp giving a hug to an apparent transfer target is sure to set the wheels spinning further.
It is said that FSG made a ‘commitment’ in the summer to bid again for Nunes, who ultimately made the switch from Sporting to Wolves amid apparent interest from Liverpool. They will now need to decide whether to honour that commitment — and the hug might be a sign that Klopp is keen.
Yet it’s worth bearing in mind that Klopp also did the same with current Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé back in 2018, with many at the time believing that Klopp was attempting to entice Mbappé to leave the French capital for Liverpool.
This didn’t happen, of course, so it’s not an action that should be read into on any deep level, but it will send rumours into overdrive nonetheless. The infamous ‘Project Mbappé’ narrative was built on far shakier ground than this.
Klopp is famous for hugging players, even ones that aren’t Liverpool players, and has done it many times down the years.
