Manchester United‘s next right-back signing is most likely to be Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, Football Transfers’ Jacque Talbot has told GiveMeSport.
The Red Devils look to be in the market for someone who can play on the right side of their defence, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka possibly set to leave Old Trafford, and Talbot thinks Erik ten Hag’s compatriot is at the top of the list.
Man United transfer news – Jeremie Frimpong
The reliable Fabrizio Romano recently informed GMS that United are “100%” open to letting Wan-Bissaka go.
It would leave the Manchester club needing a new right-back to provide competition for Diogo Dalot, with Frimpong’s name one that has come up recently.
At the end of November, Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that the 22-year-old had been made aware of interest from United.
Regarding how much Frimpong could cost, Romano has told The United Stand that Leverkusen are likely to demand up to €25m (around £22m) for their player.
What has Jacque Talbot said about Jeremie Frimpong and Man United?
If United do need to sign a new right-back to replace Wan-Bissaka, Talbot thinks Frimpong is the most likely candidate to come in.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Frimpong, I think for me, that’d be the most likely – a Dutch player who could come relatively cheap from Leverkusen, who have been struggling this season. So that would be the one I put the most onus on.”Would Jeremie Frimpong be a good replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Man United?
Easily. Frimpong is a very good full-back going forward. He could give United a new dimension on the right flank.
As per WhoScored, he has already scored five goals and provided two assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season, which is pretty impressive for a defender.
The Dutchman is also making 2.1 dribbles per league game, which is the highest number in Leverkusen’s squad. He is averaging 1.7 tackles a match as well, so his defending has not been too bad either.
A lot will depend on what happens with Wan-Bissaka, but if United sell the former Crystal Palace man and plan to replace him, as you would expect, then Frimpong looks like he could be a smart purchase by the club.
For just £22m, based on how the former Celtic man has played this season, it could potentially be one of the bargains of January. And at 22, he would have time to develop at Old Trafford under Ten Hag and become even better.
