Once again this season, the Los Angeles Lakers don’t seem to be a competitive team. Even after making numerous roster adjustments to become younger and more athletic, the Lakers roster never gave anyone the impression that they could perform at a high level. However, despite Anthony Davis’ injury, LA’s season has still been worse in several ways.
LeBron James has been carrying the team since AD’s injury and led the Lakers to a hard-fought win against the Orlando Magic on 28 December. In the game, LeBron had an altercation with the Magic bench that was caught on camera by fans.
Magic veteran Terrence Ross spoke about the incident later and described what happened and which players instigated James into getting upset. The lesson the Magic youngsters went back with was? Never piss LeBron James off.

“A few nights ago, I was coming out of the game and Jalen Suggs was talking to LeBron, nothing crazy, just talking. Caleb Houstan might have said something along the lines of ‘Jalen, stop talking to him’. But he wasn’t talking anything crazy, he was just speaking to Jalen. For whatever reason, Bron must have thought Caleb was talking to him. I don’t know what he must have thought Caleb said but he just lost it and said, ‘hey you better tell your young boy he don’t know me’, something along the lines of like ‘get your boy,’ I don’t know.”
What I thought was happening was that he just needed something to get him going. He was just using this for motivation to get out there and get going. Guess what happened? He got going. So, I was trying to tell everybody like, ‘bro, relax, calm down, shut up. If there’s one player you don’t wanna piss off, it’s probably him’.”
James had 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in a game that was a strong win for the Lakers. They need every single win they can get, and the Magic fell victim to LeBron trying to psyche himself up. This game did lead to the end of LeBron’s seven-game 30-point streak that had taken place prior.
LeBron James Looking For Motivation
As Ross said, LeBron needed something to get himself going. He has spoken openly about how playing on a losing Lakers squad at this stage of his career isn’t enough reason for him to keep himself motivated. The team is inherently bad, and nothing LeBron can do at the age of 38 will take it on a championship run.
This season, LeBron has Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record to chase after. Next season onwards, the Lakers need to give this man another chance at contending, or he will exercise free agency in 2024 or request a trade in the summer of 2023 since he can’t be traded this season.
