Arsene Wenger is certain that Arsenal will win the Premier League this season. After seeing Mikel Arteta’s side defeat West Ham on Boxing Day, the Frenchman was impressed.

Arsenal remain five points clear at the top of the table heading into Saturday’s match away to Brighton. The Gunners have failed to win just two of their 15 league matches so far this season.

Wenger was in charge for the last time the north London club finished top of the pile in England. That time around, Arsenal went the entire season unbeaten.

They would likely have to beat the 90 points they managed in that campaign to finish above Manchester City. Wenger returned to the Emirates for the first time since his exit in 2018 for the 3-1 victory against the Hammers.

He was impressed with what he saw and is sure a title challenge could be on the cards. Wenger told Norwegian outlet TV2: “It was a fantastic performance.

“Arsenal is getting stronger and stronger. It was a one-way street.

“I think they have all the necessary ingredients, both tactically and mentally. They can go all the way. Because, as you can see, they create so many chances. I don’t really see any weaknesses.”

Wenger was full of praise for Martin Odegaard when speaking to TV2. The 73-year-old wanted to focus the interview on the Gunners skipper but also acknowledged the reception he got from the Arsenal fans on Monday.

He said: “It was amazing. But I won’t say much about it. I wanted to call you back to talk about Odegaard, because I like him very much.”
