Romelu Lukaku does not want to return to Chelsea when his current loan deal at Inter Milan expires, hoping to remain at the San Siro past the end of this season.
The Belgian forward signed for Chelsea from Inter last year in a mammoth £98m move but things did not go well for him in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku did not gel at all with then coach Thomas Tuchel and scored just eight Premier League goals before getting the return to Inter that he wanted.
It was a remarkably poor bit of business for the Blues who loaned him back to Serie A for around €8m while they still have him under contract until 2026.
The 29-year-old is only on a season-long deal at Inter, but he has made it clear that he wants to stay there beyond that and not return to west London despite still having three years on his Chelsea deal.
‘I spoke to Chelsea about my relationship with the coach and I decided to come back to Inter,’ Lukaku told Sky Sports Italia. ‘Things went very fast and I’m happy. I hope to stay at Inter, Inter for me is everything. But we need to find a way with Chelsea.’
Despite loving life at Inter Milan, it has been a frustrating season for the Belgian who has been struggling with a thigh injury for much of the campaign.
Lukaku has made just four Serie A appearances and scored once in the league, getting on the pitch just once as a substitute in the Champions League.
