Casemiro continues to impress in a Manchester United shirt and his signing has been described as a ‘steal’.
That’s the view of former club hero Paul Parker after watching the Brazil midfielder run the show in the Red Devils’ perfect return to Premier League action.
The 30-year-old played the full 90 minutes, despite featuring heavily at the World Cup, and grabbed an assist in the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Midfield was an area of desperate need for the Red Devils and Erik ten Hag seems to have addressed those issues with the addition of Casemiro.
After winning five Champions League titles with Real Madrid, United paid £70million to bring him to Old Trafford.
Parker told talkSPORT that he believes that represents great value for money.
He said: “The midfield has definitely improved and got a lot better since Casemiro started playing regularly.
“You can see by the way he’s growing into it now. You can see why United, out of all of their players, that Casemiro is a steal.”
The statistics also back up that view as the Red Devils have enjoyed brilliant results with him in their team.
He has played 20 times so far in his United career, winning 15 of those, drawing two and only losing three times.
The midfielder has also chipped in with a goal and two assists in the Premier League.
Ten Hag’s side had a sluggish start to the season, losing their first two games, and have been playing catch up ever since.
The win over Forest puts them now fifth in the table and on a run of four straight wins in all competitions.
Next up are games against strugglers Wolves and Bournemouth.
Despite their uptick in form and performances, Parker thinks they are still some way off challenging for the Premier League title.
“United still have a way to go. You can talk about them in second or third, but to actually win it not a chance,” he said.
“Just look at Arsenal and Man City, even Newcastle, United are just not near them.
