Taylor Swift was in the process of purchasing a seven-bedrooom, £8.3million home in London before she split up with British boyfriend Joe Alwyn, it has been claimed today.
Pop icon Taylor and actor Alwyn, who had been together for six years, had successfully offered on a Grade II listed luxury mansion in Belsize Park, north London, sources told The Sun on Sunday.
Reports of the couple’s split were revealed in US media last weekend.
Taylor Swift was spotted in London last October, around the time the for-sale property was taken off the market.
The couple had previously rented a property in nearby Primrose Hill, reports say, with the mansion in question worth in the region of £7million.
It is unclear whether either the singer or actor will still move into the house, as Land Registry records show the ownership is subject to completion, the Sun reports.
Belsize Park is a highly affluent area of the capital, and has been home to other celebrities including Noel Gallagher, Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman.
The £8.3million property is described as a ‘private’ and ‘exceptional period house’ with an ‘enchanting’ garden.
According to estate agent Savills, the property also has a wine cellar and garden flat.
Neighbours were reportedly aware that Swift had been planning to move in.
The private star took the unusual step of addressing her split with Alwyn on stage on Friday night, when she performed live for the first time since the break-up.
Performing in Tampa, Florida, she told fans: ‘Is it just me or do we have a lot of things to catch up on?’
During the performance, the star also played down the significance of her 2019 song Lover, which is said to have been written about Joe.
Before she began the track, she casually said to the audience: ‘The song we are going to play next, it’s just a love song, you know?’
Taylor Swift is one of the world’s most famous artists, and had 36.6billion streams of her music around the world in 2022 alone, according to Universal Music.
The star, whose tenth studio album Midnights debuted on October 21, has won 11 Grammys and last year became the first-ever artist to hold the top 10 places on the US charts at the same time.
She has previously referenced England in her music and spent a large part of coronavirus lockdowns in the UK with her then-boyfriend, who lived in north London at the time.
Actor Alwyn, who was born in Tunbridge Wells in 1991, has enjoyed prominent roles in award-winning films such as The Favourite.
He has also appeared in TV series Conversations with Friends and films Mary Queen of Scots and The Vanishing.
After reports of the couple’s break up, fans were left devastated and shared their heartbreak online.
