Park Seo-Joon has reportedly been cast in The Marvels, but which character is he playing? Here are a couple of possibilities from Marvel Comics.
The cast of The Marvels includes South Korean actor Park Seo-joon in a mystery role. Directed by Candyman’s Nia DaCosta, the Captain Marvel sequel began filming in 2021 and is set for release on November 10, 2023. The exact nature of Park Seo-joon’s MCU role hasn’t been officially confirmed, but the Itaewon Class and Parasite star’s MCU casting was first announced by South Korean entertainment news site Star News. His role in The Marvels has been kept under wraps, but there are a few plausible theories as to who Park could be playing in the upcoming Phase 5 film.
Initial theories suggested Park Seo-joon could have been portraying Amadeus Cho, a young genius from Marvel Comics who becomes a Hulk, but recent speculation and the new official trailer for The Marvels have debunked this theory. Park Seo-joon will join Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, and Samuel L. Jackson in The Marvels, as well as the film introducing MCU newcomer Zawe Ashton as the villain. Marvel Studios released the first trailer for The Marvels on April 11, 2023, which revealed more about the film’s plot and characters, though Park Seo-joon’s role is still unclear.
Everything We Know About Park Seo-Joon’s Character In The Marvels
The trailer for The Marvels gives audiences their first look at Park Seo-joon in the upcoming film, apparently showing him as the leader or ruler of a group of individuals who seem to be in celebration. It was recently rumored that Park would be portraying Carol Danvers’ secret husband from her time between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, and since Captain Marvel seems to be involved in this celebration somehow, these theories could carry some weight. Even so, Park’s character hasn’t been named, so speculation is still rife about who the MCU newcomer could be playing in The Marvels.
Why Park Seo-joon Is Probably Playing Noh-Varr In The Marvels
Park Seo-joon could be portraying the MCU’s Noh-Varr, a.k.a. Marvel Boy, in The Marvels. Like Carol Danvers, Noh-Varr was a soldier of the Kree Empire, but his life was changed when a villain called Dr. Midas attacked his ship, crashing it in New Jersey, the home of Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan, who will also have a starring role in The Marvels. The synopsis for The Marvels reveals that Captain Marvel is brought face-to-face with a Kree revolutionary, which could easily be the role assigned to Park Seo-joon, who had the typical Kree powers in Marvel Comics, as well as being enhanced with insect DNA.
Another factor making Noh-Varr’s debut in The Marvels likely is the imminent arrival of the Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Set to premiere in June 2023 ahead of The Marvels, Secret Invasion will provide further context about the Skrulls, an alien race that are enemies of the Kree Empire, and the comic storyline of the same name also featured Noh-Varr. The upcoming Nick Fury-centric series would be the perfect opportunity to introduce the new hero, and if Noh-Varr really is going to play a major role in The Marvels, Park Seo-joon is a very likely candidate to be playing the young heartthrob
