Manchester United claimed a dominant win over Everton on Saturday, but it was far from a perfect afternoon for Erik ten Hag, with Marcus Rashford limping off injured late on.
Manchester United ensured they kept their hopes for a top four spot on track with a win over Everton on Saturday.
Goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial secured all three points for the Red Devils against the Toffees. But it was not a perfect afternoon for Erik ten Hag, who saw star attacker Marcus Rashford limp off with injury.
Rashford’s early exit left Ten Hag fuming at the Premier League for his side’s hectic fixture list. Meanwhile, Gary Neville blamed a “curse” for the latest setback to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s career. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United news.
Rashford hit by injury
Marcus Rashford was hit by a crushing injury blow as United sealed a dominant win over Everton. The 25-year-old appeared to injury his groin as he stretched for a high-ball, immediately signalling that he needed to be replaced.
The attacker limped off to be replaced by Wout Weghorst for the final 10 minutes, with his exit leaving a sour taste in the mouth of United fans. Rashford recently pulled out of England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine with an injury issue.
And it appears he could be set for another spell on the sidelines with this groin problem. United will now be sweating on their top scorer’s fitness for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla.
Neville opens up on ‘curse’
Gary Neville blamed a “curse” affecting United’s right-backs for Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s inexplicable miss against Everton. Antony had seen a shot cannon off the post and into Wan-Bissaka’s path.
But rather than slot into a virtually empty net, the Englishman scuffed his shot and it rolled wide of Jordan Pickford’s post. Wan-Bissaka has only netted twice in 149 games for the Red Devils.
Neville had some sympathy for the right-back, having netted just seven times in more than 600 appearances for United. He tweeted: “The Right Back goal scoring curse at Old Trafford continues.”
Ten Hag takes aim at Premier League
United boss Erik ten Hag has blamed the Premier League for the injury to Marcus Rashford. The Dutchman pointed to his side’s hectic ficture schedule as the reason why the attacker had to limp off against Everton.
“We have to wait [on Rashford’s injury], it doesn’t look good. Once again it’s due to the schedule, you can’t play three games in six days. We have to protect our players,” the United boss told BT Sport.
“Everyone wants the best players on the pitch, everyone wants to see great entertaining football like today. But you need your best players. It’s a win and we have to move on.
