‘In just a few short years, Zendaya has captured audiences’ attention with her compassionate performance on the small screen as Rue in Euphoria and has drawn audiences in on the big screen with her performances in Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Greatest Showman and Dune,’ said Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon.
‘We could not be more honored to present Zendaya with this year’s CinemaCon Star of the Year Award,’ Neuhauser added.
Zendaya will return as Chani in Dune: Part Two, slated for release November 3, which could be one of the biggest movies of the year.
The first Dune – released in October 2021 as COVID-19 lockdowns were starting to ease – debuted in both theaters and simultaneously on HBO Max and it still fared quite well.
The adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal 1965 novel took in $108.3 million domestic and $402 million worldwide from an estimated $165 million budget.
Director Denis Villeneuve had long said that he planned on adapting the novel into two movies – with the original novel first published as two separate serials.
Zendaya’s character Chani was only briefly introduced in the first Dune movie but she’s expected to have a major role in Part Two.
The actress will also hit the big screen a few months before Dune in Challengers, which is slated for release on September 15, which she also produces.

The actress stars as Tashi, a former tennis star-turned-coach who has turned her husband Art (Mike Faist) into a tennis champion.
She decides to get him out of a losing streak by entering him in a ‘challengers’ event where he faces a burnt out Patrick (Josh O’Connor), Art’s former best friend and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.
Zendaya will also return as her troubled character Rue in HBO’s Euphoria, which was renewed for a third season in February 2022.
There is no indication yet when production will begin, or when the new season may be released on HBO, though a report from February indicates Zendaya scored a huge pay bump.
A report at Puck claims the actress will earn upwards of $1 million per episode on the third season of Euphoria.
She joins rarefied air among current TV stars with Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis, Tulsa King’s Sylvester Stallone and 1923’s Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren each pulling in $1 million per episode.
Yellowstone star Kevin Costner reportedly takes in $1.2 million per episode while John Krasinski appears to be the highest-paid star on television.
The actor reportedly earns $2 million for both starring in and producing Amazon’s Jack Ryan.
