A wildlife photographer has captured the moment a male lion roars with passion while mating with a lioness who seems incredibly underwhelmed at the situation.
Renata Ewald spotted the love birds whilst on a solo drive in Kruger National Park, South Africa, earlier this year.
She says lions typically ‘sleep and mate every 20 minutes’ but as the moments of passion last just a few seconds, it can be difficult to photograph.
Ms Ewald, a wildlife photographer, said: ‘When I came across the mating lions a sort of nervous excitement crept up my spine.
‘For many years one of my goals has been to capture that perfect moment when lions mate.
‘Their mating session only lasts only a few seconds, but it is always raw power and passion.
‘To capture these shots I got myself into position, set my camera settings according to light and waited.
‘Patience is a virtue when you do wildlife photography!
‘The images show the male lion really into it and soon after the lioness gets up and the mating starts.
‘I zoomed into their facial expressions and shooting away, it gave me goose bumps.
‘I am always speechless to watch these majestic animals.’
