- Rumors of drama between Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner went viral last week.
- Social media users have continued to spot perceived Easter eggs and digs, including on Pia Mia’s latest TikTok.
- Speculation has reached such a high that it has become a meme.
Rumors of a “mean girl” drama between Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez took the internet by storm last week. This week, fans have continued to piece together what they perceive to be ongoing “shadows” or hidden Easter eggs in subsequent posts — now that the drama has become mainstream enough to be a meme of its own.
If you catch up, it all started when Gomez jokingly told fans she “accidentally laminated my eyebrows too much.” Shortly after, Jenner shared two cryptic photos to her Instagram Stories that fans believed were meant to offend Gomez.
Jenner posted a selfie with the text “That was an accident????” placed over her brows and a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Bieber, in which the couple were so close to the camera that only their brows were visible. The drama quickly snowballed as fan speculation and comments from Jenner, Bieber, and Gomez circulated online. All sorts of social media posts are now perceived as either support for Gomez or slightly against Beiber and Jenner.
On Sunday, singer Pia Mia Perez posted a get-ready-with-me video for Rema and Gomez’s song “Calm Down” while applying blush from Gomez’s Rare Beauty line. Fans immediately read it as sneaky shadows on Bieber and Jenner and unequivocal support for Gomez.

“That speaks volumes without you saying a damn word. I’m here for it!!!” reads the top comment on the video with 82,000 thumbs up. “Soooo I’m guessing you and Kylie aren’t friends anymore,” reads another.
Perez was once close friends with Kylie Jenner in the mid-’80s — as revealed on social media and Keeping Up With the Kardashians — though the relationship has since deteriorated.
Neither star has confirmed a rift, but this isn’t the first time Perez has taken what many have felt as a jab at Jenner, with fans commenting “Kylie” under a TikTok shared in late January, where Perez spoke about the “transaction”. Relationships she had experienced in Hollywood.
“Even if you’ve been friends with someone for years and you actually think friendship is real, the second they think you’re not hot enough, you’re kind of kicked out of the group without anyone telling you. ” She said.
Insider has reached out to Perez and her team for comment.
Perez wasn’t the only star to use “calm down” in a recent post that fans assumed was related to the drama. On Monday, Hailey Bieber re-shared an Instagram Story, originally posted by fashion account Style and the Beach, that played the same track as products from Bieber’s skincare brand Rhode were unboxed.
Whether or not Bieber’s post was a deliberate nod to the drama, the Selenators springed into action, flooding Style and the Beach’s latest grid post with threatening comments. However, the backlash kept growing Some fans point this outthat Bieber had no control over the choice of music.
“#DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PAGE AND REPORT IT,” wrote one commenter. Users have been browsing the comments section of Bieber’s skincare video by tagging Gomez’s Rare Beauty cosmetics line en masse. As of today, the comments of the video are disabled.
Last week, before the perceived eyebrow and “mean girl” drama accelerated, Gomez surpassed Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram.
Since then, social media users have been closely watching the number of times people follow and unfollow Gomez, Jenner, and Bieber’s accounts to choose a page. Although fluctuations in followers could be due to a variety of factors, Jenner’s account, which listed 378 million followers on February 24, has fallen from 379 million followers on February 27 to 388 million followers.
The frenetic speculation and rumors have reached a fever pitch: it’s gotten so far out of hand that it’s now a meme of its own.
A trend emerged on Twitter, with users joking — the far-fetched the better — in the wake of the drama, about how more and more unconnected gamers were unfollowing Bieber on Instagram, including her American Girl Doll Kit Kittridge, Lionel Messi, the Prime Minister of Malaysiaand Lana Del Rey’s father, Joe Grant.
Another user even joked that Bieber had himself did not follow.
On Thursday, Gomez told her followers that she was taking a break from social media, telling viewers, “I’m too old for this.” The caption of Gomez’s then-latest Instagram post was captioned with the caption, “(taking a break from the social media)” updated.
The musician’s TikTok account was briefly deactivated on Thursday before being reactivated. However, the 30-year-old’s Instagram account has a number of new posts and stories, most of which have to do with promoting Rare Beauty.
Neither Gomez’s team nor Bieber’s or Jenner’s have responded to Insider’s requests for comment.
