Former Liverpool, Sadio Mane reveals Cristiano Ronaldo gave him advise on move away from Liverpool

Former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo told him that his move to Bayern Munich was a ‘great step’.

The Senegal attacker said he met with the Al-Nassr superstar, 38, in Mallorca before his first season in the Bundesliga.

The Bayern Munich striker, 30, left Anfield last summer in a £35.1million deal with the German club.

Mane, who arrived at the Merseyside giant from Southampton in 2016 for £34million, has scored 11 goals across all competitions since moving to Bayern.

Speaking to BILDSport, Mane said: ‘That says everything about the Bundesliga and underlines what I’ve already said: I think you underestimate the Bundesliga here.’

‘The recent performances in the Champions League prove that,’ he added.

‘I met Cristiano Ronaldo in Mallorca before this season after my move was completed.

‘He congratulated me and told me: “A great club. This is a great step for you.”‘

Mane won six major trophies during six years on Merseyside, claiming every major club honour, and scored a total of 120 goals in 269 games for the club.

In his final season, Mane scored 23 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions during a campaign where he also won the Africa Cup of Nations with his country.

His first trophy came in 2019 with the Champions League and he won the Premier League a season later.

He completed his English trophy set by winning the League Cup and FA Cup this year, while he was also part of the side which won the 2019 UEFA Super Cup and 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool were initially reluctant to sell Mane, who was instrumental in the transformation of Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo moved to the Saudi side where he signed a lucrative £175m-a-year deal.

Despite making a slow start, the 38-year-old has come alive in recent weeks, scoring seven goals in his past three games.

He scored a hat-trick before half time in his last game and netted all four in a thumping Al-Nassr win earlier this month.
