Erling Haaland can’t seem to stop scoring goals and it’s lead to him claiming another impressive accolade during his debut season in English football.
The Manchester City star notched his 27th Premier League goal of the season during his side’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday and, in doing so, made history.
The goal ensured Haaland broke City’s single-season goalscoring record in the Premier League, a title which had previously been by Sergio Aguero.
The Argentinian striker’s best campaign in-front of goal for the club came during the 2014/15 season, where he notched 26 goals.
However, his tally has already been beaten by Haaland during the Norwegian’s debut season and the City star still has 13 more league games to extend his record.
On the half hour mark of City’s trip to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, Haaland struck to double the visitors’ advantage.
They’d been given the lead by Julian Alvarez before Haaland was on hand to smash home from close range and break Aguero’s record.
Pep Guardiola’s side wrapped up the win thanks to Phil Foden and a Chris Mepham own-goal, before Jefferson Lerma scored a late consolation for the hosts.
The former Borussia Dortmund star now has 33 goals in 33 appearances for City in all competitions this season as he continues to flourish under Pep Guardiola.
It’s lead to him leading the Premier League goalscoring charts this season, with second-placed Harry Kane ten goals behind his Norwegian counterpart.
The current Premier League single-season record is held by both Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer, who have notched 34 in one campaign.
However, those were attained during Premier League seasons that had 42 matches – four more than current campaigns do.
The highest 38-match single-season record in the top-flight is held by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, after he scored 32 goals during the 2017-18 season.
