Barcelona’s Raphinha was left physically scratching his head after David de Gea plucked his ‘100mph’ rocket out of the air during their clash against Manchester United
Barcelona’s Raphinha was left scratching his head after David de Gea not only stopped his long-range rocket – but plucked it out of the air with ease.
The former Leeds United forward, who joined Barcelona for an initial fee of £50million in the summer, was looking to hit back after Marcus Rashford’s equaliser but came up against an inspired Manchester United goalkeeper.
Having lined up a strike from long range, the Brazil international got everything behind it but was left scratching the top of his head after it was easily dealt with.
One tweet said: “Raphinha’s reaction to David De Gea just catching his 100mph shot is priceless.”
A second said: “Lol I actually laughed here. It was at this moment he knew he had to score.” And a third chuckled: “Here come the memes.”
Having scored an equalising goal after Jules Kounde put through his own net, the 26-year-old was furious to be subbed off by Xavi with the game ending 2-2.
Having looked fuming while walking off, he punched and kicked the seat in front after finding his spot on the substitute’s bench.
His manager was then asked about the reaction, saying that he had indeed received an apology but hadn’t called for one from the passionate star.
Xavi said after the game: “I understand Raphinha’s frustration, I was also angry when I used to be substituted. He apologised for it, but there was no need for that. I liked his desire to play and participate.”
Raphinha looks set to play a key role at Old Trafford in the second-leg next Thursday, with both sides looking to secure a spot in the last 16.
