One of the most legendary NBA players of all time has proven why he’s an equally legendary person.
Michael Jordan was used to breaking records on the court but now the 59-year-old has set a record by donating US$10 million (A$14.5m) to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
CBS reports It’s the largest single donation the organisation has ever received since its inception 43 years ago.

It comes ahead of the basketball icon’s 60th birthday on February 17, and he hopes it inspires many others to donate on that date.
Make-A-Wish provides ‘wishes’ to children with a terminal illness, granting them surprises and experiences as a means to allow them to escape from their situation for a moment or day.
The likes of WWE legend John Cena has granted a record 650 wishes from children to meet him.
While other children have requested to visit the likes of Disney World for a day.
Jordan granted his first wish in 1989 when he was at the peak of his powers for the Chicago Bulls.
He has granted hundreds more since and has been one of the most requested celebrities.
One of his most notable granted wishes was for 11-year-old Katie Dankowski back in 2000.
Katie was undergoing treatment for a brain tumour, however, went on to battle the disease.
She now works for the Make-A-Wish foundation, citing Jordan’s visit as the catalyst for her choosing that career pathway.
Jordan said of the donation: “For the past 34 years, it’s been an honour to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids.
“Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration.
“I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true.”
Jordan built a wealth of fortune through deals with Nike and his success on the court.
However, after his career, he has become known for his philanthropy, and most notably donated US$50 million in 2020 to organisations pursuing racial equality.
Meanwhile, Make-A-Wish says they grant wishes at a rate of one wish every 34 minutes to thousands of children with critical illnesses.
Jordan’s donation will go toward ensuring children continue to live out a dream while they face adversity.
