Kevin De Bruyne showed no love for his former assistant manager Mikel Arteta as the Arsenal boss stopped him from getting the ball in their clash with Manchester City
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne got into a touchline spat with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta during their top of the table clash.
Arteta blocked De Bruyne from getting the ball back for a quick throw-in with the score 1-1 at the Emirates early in the second half. After the Gunners manager kicked it further away, he received a push on the chest.
He then exchanged words with De Bruyne who eventually grabbed the ball and pointed his finger at him. The argy-bargy was quickly diffused – but Arteta’s mood won’t have improved.
City took the lead later in the second half with Jack Grealish’s strike deflecting off of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s leg and past Aaron Ramsdale in the Arsenal goal, before Erling Haaland added a third.
It was the visitors who had taken the lead in the opening 45 minutes through De Bruyne, who capitalised on a poor Tomiyasu back-pass to chip Ramsdale.
Bukayo Saka levelled from the spot shortly before the break after Ederson had fouled Eddie Nketiah. But it was City who drew ahead after the restart.
Grealish and Haaland’s goals secured Pep Guardiola’s side a humongous three points which took them to the top of the Premier League for the first time in a long time, albeit having played a game more than their title rivals.
They’ve still got to welcome Arsenal to the Etihad in late April in what could be a straight shootout for glory if their results are otherwise matched. The Gunners remain in pole position – for now.
