“That’s something we would like to preserve”: Marvel Producer Reveals MCU Won’t Be Focusing On Disney+ After Tom Cruise Taught Marvel Studios a Lesson With Top Gun 2

Ever since the pandemic affected everyone all over the globe it brought many unexpected and forced changes to everyone. This also included multiple multi-billion dollar companies that worked in the film production business and earned their millions from movies shown in cinemas. One of the biggest franchises today is Marvel Studios and during the pandemic when all the theatres closed down due to health reasons, Marvel Studios teamed up with Disney+ for their content to be exclusively shown on the streaming site.

Marvel Studios Partnership With Disney+

Due to the pandemic, Marvel Studios partnered up with Disney+ as all the theatres closed down and premiered all their shows such as Moon Knight, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. The shows were massive hits upon their release and boosted both Marvel Studios’ and Disney+’s streaming services and also received positive comments about this change. They also made a hybrid release of the Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson and also premiered it in the theatres on the same date.

Bob Chapek, the former CEO of Disney made it clear that it was one of the best ways to build a franchise partnering up with a streaming service platform and made Black Widow an example as it received many positive reviews. It was easier for people to watch a show in the comfort of their homes rather than traveling amidst the covid situation and risking themselves to the virus.

Will Marvel Studios Continue Their Movie Streaming on Disney+?

In an interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore said that Marvel Studios will be streaming their TV shows and series on Disney+ but will only premiere their movies in theatres. Though there were many positive comments to that change, that was only a temporary fix for the covid situation, and as now the streets are far safer than it was before, they have gone back to their original ways. Nate Moore clearly stated that they would like to preserve their movies for the theatres.

“No, I mean… and Kevin [Feige], we all are, we’re huge fans of the theatrical experience. And one of the benefits of us being able to do Disney+ series frankly, is that they can co-exist. The series can be on your service and the movies can be in theaters. And that’s something we would like to preserve for as long as we can. And Disney’s been supportive, which is great.”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that watching the movies in theatres, with many other fans makes the surrounding very chilling and the experience is rich. He added that “There’s nothing better” than experiencing it in the atmosphere of the hall than watching it at our own home as Infinity War and Endgame were clear evidence of this.

“We spend years and years trying to work up to those moments, and being in a theater and seeing it and seeing it happen, there’s nothing better. Every decision we make is from the point of view of sitting in a crowded theater experiencing the story.”

Feige also said that the streaming services will be the meta for the next generations to come and claims it to be “100% the future”, currently they will not be focusing on that after they faced a wall in 2022 from Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. In 2022, Marvel Studios released 3 movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black: Panther Wakanda Forever, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Though they were in their own leagues, one of the bests, they couldn’t overcome the huge difference at the box office collection of the Top Gun sequel. The movie almost touched the $1.5 billion mark whereas the highest-grossing Marvel movie barely made it to $1 billion. So currently, Kevin Feige is fixed on making a huge comeback with the Ant-Man 3 as it will kick off Phases 5 and 6.
