Erik Ten Hag criticizes the “inconsistent refereeing” after Casemiro was sent off and Martinez was elbowed.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has blasted ‘inconsistent’ referee’s after the Red Devils were reduced to 10 men against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Casemiro was given his marching orders after VAR picked up the Brazillian with his hands around Will Hughes’ neck. However, Jeffery Schullup, who had instigated the mass brawl by shoving Antony, escaped any punishment from the officials.

And Ten Hag has now hit out at the inconsistency of officiating in recent weeks: “Casemiro crossed the line; you saw that. However, I’m unhappy with the inconsistent refereeing; not only this game but also in Palace. They elbowed Martinez and last week with Eriksen.”

United fans had been left fuming at the officials last week when Christian Eriksen was ruled out until the end of April due to a challenge.

Andy Carroll had clattered into the Dane, but the Englishman escaped punishment for the tackle. Carroll continued to fly into challenges, and he was eventually given his marching orders after a late tackle on Casemiro.

Ten Hag, after the clash said: “I’m disappointed about that! I think football has to set limits, restrictions, that protect the players. What football wants is the best players to be available on the pitch.

“This is a tackle – and the two tackles after it – that don’t belong on a pitch, because there is a high risk of injuring your colleague. So it’s worse and I’m left wondering about that.

“I’m also wondering more, when we were at Crystal Palace, when there was an elbow on Lisandro Martinez.

“I don’t believe there was even a whistle for a free-kick and I’m wondering about such things, because it’s a risk of injury for the player.”
