Manchester City have reportedly turned down a Deadline Day approach from Barcelona for midfielder Bernardo Silva.
The 28 year-old, who has been heavily linked with a move to the La Liga giants in the past, is reportedly once again subject to transfer interest from the Catalan club.
Bernardo Silva has been with Manchester City since 2017, winning 11 trophies including four Premier League titles at the Etihad Stadium.
Barcelona and PSG were both linked with the Portugal midfielder in the summer, however a transfer to Spain or France never materialised.
Silva has openly spoken about his intentions to play elsewhere in Europe, saying in a recent interview: “I won’t hide that my goal in the coming years, if something good happens elsewhere, will probably be to move to a new project.”
The midfielder has made 30 appearances for the Sky Blues so far this season though has started just one of City’s last four matches in all competitions.
Barcelona have reportedly made an audacious late attempt to sign the 28 year-old, though have seen their offer of an initial loan with an obligation to buy rejected by the Premier League champions.
AS report that the Catalan club contacted Manchester City in an attempt to reach an agreement but have seen their approaches turned down.
Bernardo Silva is expected to remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond this month, despite City having sanctioned a surprise loan move for full-back Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo has joined Bayern Munich for the remainder of the campaign after a reported ‘bust-up’ with manager Pep Guardiola.
City are expected to make significant changes to their midfield this summer, with the futures of both Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan beyond the current campaign yet to be decided.
