‘The book version of the conniving prince is far superior to the one we got in the series’: The Most Overrated HOTD Character Everyone Secretly Hates

One of the main characters of the Game of Thrones spinoff series really disappointed fans in the first season.

George R.R. Martin is known for carefully creating realistic, morally gray and just well-written characters in his books, and the success of the HBO series can be attributed to this very fact.

Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the best series that boasts excellent character development full of surprising revelations.

But making interesting characters on paper and in live action are two very different things, and it seems that the creative team behind House of the Dragon has failed to bring Daemon Targaryen to the small screens with dignity.

Gory House of the Dragon Finale Scene Had a Deeper Meaning Than You Thought

One of the main characters in the spinoff series, Prince Daemon, is played with gusto by Matt Smith, one of the best actors of our time. But it seems that some fans are not very happy with his performance of this complex character, arguing that the book version of the conniving prince is far superior to the one we got in the series.

First of all, Daemon has always been considered a difficult man to understand, his love for war and lust for power constantly at odds with his unbreakable loyalty to his family. Some fans don’t see this on screen at all, noting that Daemon has turned into a petty and insecure man who uses unprovoked violence to get what he wants.

Others lament that Daemon seems to have lost his originality in the HBO series, becoming something of an obsessive sibling to his brother Viserys, to the point that his love for Rhaenyra did not seem genuine to many fans.

A huge part of the community now really hates Daemon for one reason: because of Matt Smith’s huge fandom.

Some people who have followed the British actor’s career since his time on Doctor Who are willing to call him a genius for every role he has played, which is very frustrating for some Game of Thrones fans, who judge the series by plot and character development, not by a familiar face.

Smith’s performance seems a bit overrated to some, but his character’s story is far from over, so the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon may be able to change the way fans think about the Rogue Prince.
