Given his comments, Tom Cruise does not plan to slow down any time soon and that includes his stunt work.
As one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, many people are aware of Tom Cruise and what he brings to any major film project. The man is defying all age norms, and to this day, he still does his own stunts. Cruise has a number of ways to stay in shape, and combined with his diet, he is still able to do the impossible.
Now, it’s amazing to see that the legend is still doing his own stunts, but fans have to know when he’s finally going to call it a day. Thankfully, we have some details on that below!
Tom Cruise Is A Big-Screen Legend
The 1980s was a decade that saw many young stars breakout in Hollywood, including a guy by the name of Tom Cruise. He was by no means an instant success, taking on smaller roles early on in his career. Eventually, however, Cruise got the chance to shine as a leading man, and once he did, Hollywood was never the same again.
The ’80s allowed Cruise to become a star, but the ’90s helped him become a longstanding legend. The 2000s brought along icon status, and at this point in his illustrious career, Tom Cruise is still one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Outside of the ever-elusive Oscar win, the actor has seen and done it all in Hollywood. This has earned him far more media coverage that he would probably like, but this is one of the many things that come with being a ginormous star in the industry.
Tom Cruise is known for a number of things, including doing his own stunts in his biggest movies.
Cruise Famously Does His Own Stunts
Overall, there aren’t many actors on the face of the planet willing to do their own stunts in films. Tom Cruise, however, insists that he does his own stunts, and this is part of what made him one of the biggest movie stars in history.
The actor has previously opened up about doing his own stunts, letting Graham Norton know how much he enjoys its,” per CinemaBlend.
“The first time of any stunt is nerve wracking but it also exhilarating. I have been told a few times during shooting a stunt to stop smiling,” Cruise said.
Sounds fun, right? Well, that fun comes with a heavy price tag.
“I am a very physical actor and I love doing them. I study and train and take a lot of time figuring it all out. I have broken a lot of bones,” the actor added.
Father Time comes for us all, which has fans wondering when Tom Cruise will finally let someone else do the heavy lifting.
When Will He Stop Doing Them?
So, when exactly does Tom Cruise plan on letting someone else do his stunts for him? The actor opened up about this in an interview, and he was pretty open with the fact that he plans on doing his own stunts until the day he retires, which is never.
Cruise stated that he wants to keep acting forever, and that the plan is for him to do his own stunt work during that time. That is an extremely ambitious and fitting goal for a star like Tom Cruise, but then again, this is the same guy that wants to film a movie in outer space, so people shouldn’t be too surprised to hear this.
His response can be viewed at the 10:30 mark in the video below.
For Cruise to make this happen, he will need to continue working ridiculously hard both alone and with Wade Eastwood, someone he’s been working with for several films.
When speaking with Men’s Journal, Eastwood dished on how he helps Cruise get prepared for serious stunt work.
“I help design the training from top to bottom. We have an in-house program, but Tom also has his own amazing program he does on top of ours. So he will work out on his own, then he comes to us for our fight training, in which we take him back to the basics every time. Right now because we are in deep working on Mission 6, and he is showing up every day for a couple hours. Then if we are doing specific rehearsals for scenes that are coming up, we put him in that car or on those wire rigs that he might need,” Eastwood said.
Tom Cruise is a mad man when it comes to doing his own stunts, and fans can’t wait to see him again when the newest Mission: Impossible drops.
