John Aldridge looks ahead to upcoming matches against Wolves and Chelsea in part two of his weekly Liverpool column
Liverpool have the chance to put things right this evening against Wolves, and who is selected to start will be interesting to see.
James Milner could come in, I’m sure he is the sort of player who will give his all, and maybe Ben Doak should be given a game. Klopp has got to get a reaction from the players and we need to get back on track. If we go there and get pulled apart, that is going to be a nightmare going into what is a massive game against Chelsea at the weekend. If it was down to me, I would put the same team out that lost to Brighton and tell them to prove a point to everyone after letting people down on Saturday.
You just don’t know what you’re going to get from Liverpool at this moment in time, which makes predicting how this game will play out a difficult task. Our away form has been absolutely abysmal this season, with the exception of Aston Villa away. That was our first game back after the World Cup and we really looked on it for large parts of that match, but that is a trend that has not continued.
Chelsea game could be season-defining – and fans must do their bit
We can’t afford to keep throwing away points if we’re to make the top four this season. We need to start keeping clean sheets and beating the teams also competing for European positions.
When Liverpool play the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham at home and Chelsea twice, they simply cannot lose. It looks like City, Arsenal and United will be in the top four come May, so we’re left scrapping for that one place along with the sides around us in the table.
This weekend’s Premier League game against Chelsea is absolutely massive, I can’t stress that enough. The atmosphere inside Anfield hasn’t been great lately and it’s an early kick-off on a Saturday, which is a time slot notorious for not being lively. With the form we’re in, we need everyone behind the team to urge them on. It’s not only the first-team that have a part to play on Saturday, the fans do too.
