Very close’: Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s ‘outstanding’ player may now be fit to face Wolves tomorrow

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that striker Darwin Nunez is ‘very close’ to returning to fitness, and that he could potentially play a part against Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.

Taking to his pre-match press conference ahead of the Reds’ FA Cup replay tomorrow night, the Merseyside boss shared an injury update for the game.

“Darwin is very close but it’s Monday and tomorrow is the game,” Klopp said.

“[James] Milner and [Stefan] Bajcetic trained fully. That’s it.”

Despite this, the Anfield outfit still have numerous players unavailable. This includes the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Darwin could feature against Wolves

Although Nunez is unlikely to start against the Old Gold tomorrow, the fact that he may be fit enough to make a cameo off the bench will come as a major boost for Liverpool.

Against Brighton on Saturday, the Reds looked diabolical all over the pitch – including up front.

Whilst Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo are capable of playing down the middle, they much prefer playing out wide.

Therefore, the Uruguayan’s return would allow the other attackers to flourish out on the wing, as he would take up the mantle up top.

If the side need a goal towards the end of the game, the 23-year-old’s ability to cause chaos could certainly help towards that.

Hailed by Trent Alexander-Arnold as an ‘outstanding player’, Nunez could potentially help get Liverpool back on the path to victory.

Therefore, hopefully he’s fit enough to feature against Wolves tomorrow night, as nobody else really looks like scoring.
