This is the second stage of the effort to save the life of a severely hurt tusker that was discovered collapsed close to a village boundary.
Initially the officers gave him a saline treatment and antibiotics, energy boosters and pain killers were also administered in to elephant’s body using the IV line.
But at the end of the first day’s treatment, there wasn’t a noticeable progress in elephant’s recovery. The vet team visited again in the next day to treat the elephant again.
When the team visited for the next day, elephant seemed to have regained some energy. Now he is eagerly eating the foods given by the villagers. It is a positive sign to keep hope about the elephant’s recovery. Thorny trees and bushes that disturb the operation was cleared away using a backhoe.
The same procedure was repeated because the elephant must be raised nonetheless. Without the last ounce of energy in his body, he will perish otherwise. The saline treatment was restarted.
To connect the IV line and give saline, the veterinarian carefully cleansed the elephant’s ear area. The veins around the ear are easy to see, thus a cannula is inserted here. Saline solution was administered in several bottles all at once. The elephant was shot with a gun, causing injuries.
Antiseptic medications were used to treat the resultant wounds. The police feed the elephant with compassion and great care. The veterinarian’s assistant filled the IV line with some antibiotics in the interim.
Due to infection in its wounds, the elephant is weakened. Antibiotics are useful for boosting immunity, which helps to treat infections and quicken wound healing. The saline solution included multivitamins and anti-inflammatory medications.Elephant slightly moved its body showing the signs of regaining the energy.
They are currently working to get the elephant to stand. To give the elephant a stimulus and help it regain consciousness, they patted it. The elephant was raised using a sturdy rope lope. Others push the elephant in order to provide it external assistance and help it stand up straight.
The elephant was unable to stand up straight away. Because of his extreme debilitated state and the saline injections into his body, he was still gaining strength. But they persisted. The elephant had to be made to stand for almost five hours. The operation was completed at night.
The wildlife officials were exhausted at the end of the day. But they were really happy and contented. They felt that they could achieve something special at the end of the day. The elephant moved to the forest border. But the team could provide antibiotic treatment routinely as the elephant didn’t moved deeper in to the forest. The infected wounds were completely healed after about 14 days. The tusker was seen rejoined with its herd after gaining a complete recovery.
