For as long as Zack Snyder’s vision for DC has existed, it reminded the franchise authorities how quickly everything can go downhill, even for a goliath production house as huge as Warner Bros. In the middle of the building chaos was Henry Cavill, the face of Superman in the world popularly known as SnyderVerse.
Considered one of the most divisive moments in the history of DC’s live-action run, the actor, through no fault of his own, became the pawn in the three-way crossfire between the director, the management, and the audience. A new report now further adds fuel to the raging fire by suggesting that the firing and replacement of Henry Cavill from DC was initiated as far back as 2018.
Toby Emmerich
Henry Cavill’s Divisive Run as Superman Ended in 2017
In a new report published by Variety, the former Warner Bros. Pictures chief, Toby Emmerich, has been headhunting for a new Man of Steel ever since the epic failure of Joss Whedon’s Justice League back in 2018. This proves two things — the speculations regarding the internal tug-of-war between Zack Snyder and the management are true, and Henry Cavill’s return in DCU’s Black Adam was, to put it bluntly, a fluke. SnyderVerse was never meant to progress beyond 2017 and the unannounced exit of Henry Cavill after the Justice League was meant to last, if not for The Rock’s intervention.
Zack Snyder on the Justice League set
The stepping back of Zack Snyder after the tragic death of Autumn led to an unexpected halt in the constantly churning wheel-house, and though we will never know if the epic 5-part narrative of DCEU could have come true had Snyder not been wrenched away by grief and loss, one thing’s for sure — the former management comprising Walter Hamada and Toby Emmerich wanted Snyder gone in order to gain back control over the narrative of DC.
And even though the former management is no longer in the picture, so have Snyder’s heroes taken their bow to give way to the surgically precise reconstruction of the new DC Cinematic Universe.
Mass Sentiments Sour Toward DC’s Treatment of Henry Cavill
Former chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures, Toby Emmerich has blown open all channels of debate in the constantly building animosity towards the slashing of SnyderVerse. While necessary, the removal of Snyder’s characters and their anticipated arc has not only been refuted a place in the mainstream universe but in any alternate worlds as well.
Henry Cavill
In James Gunn’s latest efforts to unify all DC divisions under one banner, major cinematic adaptations have been made canon in the DC comics insomuch that they were assigned their own universes, with the sole exception of Snyder’s one. One of the side effects of that brash negligence was the final nail in the coffin of confirmation that DC’s new management will never acknowledge SnyderVerse.
As such, Emmerich’s claim that a replacement of Henry Cavill began in 2018 doesn’t serve as anything more than rubbing salt in the already festering wound and souring the mass sentiment toward DC after the already brutal and humiliating treatment of the actor by Warner Bros. Discovery.
