Romano reveals takeover talks at Man Utd

Manchester United are holding conversations with groups over the potential sale of the club ahead of the summer transfer window.

What’s the latest?

The Red Devils were put up for sale in the latter stages of 2022 with the Glazer family announcing they were open to exploring new investment after a 17-year tenure at Old Trafford.

It has been a turbulent start to the 2022/23 campaign for United but it seems as if Erik ten Hag has been able to settle his side down as they sit in fourth spot of the Premier League table.

And the reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel to claim there are already talks being held over a potential takeover:

“I’m still told there are already conversations ongoing. So I can’t be precise about the timing because honestly, it depends on the club, on the new group and all the conversations, it’s about the lawyers.

“So it’s a really important process, but conversations are ongoing. It’s not just that Manchester United is for sale and time to wait. Conversations are ongoing. This is for sure.”

New year new owners

This will surely be music to the ears of all Manchester United fans with large sections of the fan base not hiding their frustrations towards the club’s current owners.

However, this does mean the Red Devils will still likely have the Glazers at the helm for the January window with any deal to take over a club unlikely to be completed in such a short space of time.

Do you expect a takeover by the summer window?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And with that in mind, you do have to question what funds they will make available for Ten Hag to spend when they are hoping to sell the club over the coming months.

United are in the race for a spot in the Champions League so you would think it would be a logical move to improve the squad over the January window in a bid to increase their top-four hopes.

Although the size of Manchester United will help the Glazers sell the club regardless of their position, having the revenue of the Champions League set to come through the doors next season would surely be much more appealing to potential buyers.

Having seen Cristiano Ronaldo removed from the wage bill, there may well be a seismic hole left in the United wage bill, however, a potential replacement for the Portuguese star will be dependent on the funds made available.
