LeBron James is still a formidable force on the basketball floor despite having just turned 38. For the Los Angeles Lakers as of right now, the superstar is averaging 29.0 PPG, 8.1 RPG, and 6.6 APG.
After Anthony Davis’ foot injury, the Los Angeles Lakers have been heavily reliant on LeBron James to carry them. It seems as though that trend will continue. A recent report from Dave McMenamin of ESPN shared the words of Darvin Ham, who stated that he will continue “to ride” the forward while he’s playing this well.
LeBron James hit the 40-point plateau for the second straight game since his 38th birthday in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 121-115 win over the Hornets on Monday, and coach Darvin Ham says he’s going to keep leaning on the aging veteran.
“I just want to ride him,” Ham said after James played 39 minutes and 33 seconds — the most by any player on either team. “And he allows you to do that because he takes such great care of himself. So, it’s a great luxury to have.”
The Los Angeles Lakers have recently gotten two wins in a row against the Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte Hornets. LeBron James has shown that he still has a lot left in the tank during those games, and hopefully, he can continue leading the team to more wins in the future.
LeBron James Believes He Can Still Play At A High Level For A Long Time
LeBron James’ longevity is virtually unprecedented, and it is clear that he has at least a few more years of playing at a superstar level. Recently, LeBron James expressed confidence in his ability to play at this level for a long time, noting that he’d be able to do it “as long as my mind stays in it.”
“I don’t have a number,” James said. “I know as long as my mind stays in it, I can play at this level for a minute. Now, that’s up to my mind. My body is going to be OK because if my mind is into it, I will make sure my body is taken care of and I’ll continue to put in the work.”
His current production shows that LeBron James is not slowing down whatsoever. Though his game may have changed over the course of his career, it is clear that LeBron James has found ways to maintain his numbers and impact.
Hopefully, we see the Los Angeles Lakers get LeBron James some help in the future. They are reportedly saving their tradeable first-round picks to trade for a star-level player, and we’ll see if they are able to add another elite player to complement Lebron James and Anthony Davis.
