The oldest and deepest lake on Earth is found in southeast Siberia, close to the border with Mongolia. This area has almost a fourth of the fresh water on Earth. Amazing depths of more than 5,000 feet have been measured in certain places.
The icy region is home to a wide variety of unusual plant and animal species, many of which are unique to our planet. This enormous basin is thought to have originated as an old rift valley more than 25 million years ago, according to scientists.
Lake Baikal has long been the scene of a wide variety of strange occurrences. Locals assert that several bizarre UFO sightings routinely take place in this isolated area of Russia. Some believe that behind the attractive appearance, there lies an alien base.
One of the strangest accounts happened in 1982 during a typical dive for Soviet military training. Navy soldiers were traversing the dark underwater environment when they spotted strange people swimming nearby.
They looked in confusion as numerous odd animals drew near to them. These humanoids wore no contemporary gear, while being stationed at a depth of more than 136 feet.

Unfortunately, the single recompression chamber in the area could only accommodate two individuals at once. Four men simultaneously entered out of pure desperation to try to save their lives.
