It took just seven minutes of Liverpool’s clash with Brentford for Darwin Nunez to add to his blooper reel, although his blocked effort divided opinion between viewers
Darwin Nunez missed yet another big chance to give Liverpool the lead against Brentford.
Nunez headed into the Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium having failed to score in his first three Reds games back after the World Cup, with his finishing – or lack thereof – being criticised by fans and pundits alike.
It looked like he would finally break the duck after Mo Salah played him in behind the Brentford backline and he rounded goalkeeper David Raya. But Bees defender Ben Mee got back to block his effort on the line.
The freeze frame of Nunez having an open goal at his mercy made for grim viewing, though, with many fans left scratching their heads at how he hadn’t scored.
One tweeted: “No way he missed from there.” Another questioned: “Sorry but how do you miss from here?”
“It’s getting ridiculous now,” commented a third, while a fourth wrote: “This f***ing cannot be real la I swear.”
However, others leapt to Nunez’s defence, arguing he was not to blame on this occasion. One posted: “Might be the one time he gets a pass here defender cleared it ffs.”
A second echoed: “It was blocked. Good defensive abilities by Mee.” A third said: “TBF harder than it looks.”
And another replied: “Hate this stuff. Like a screenshot shows the full story. Quick search for the vid and it’s not as easy as this suggests.”
