The MCU fandom largely consists of two main parts – those who support Captain America and those who are team Iron Man.
The debate about which superhero out of the two would win a fight against each other has been a longstanding one. Even after being on the opposite ends of the ring in the Russo Brothers’ Captain America: Civil War, neither of them really defeated the other. But that information means as little to Joe Rogan as saving the universe does to Thanos, as the former is convinced that Iron Man would emerge glorious against Steve Rogers no matter what.
Team Cap vs. Team Iron Man
To Rogan, Captain America’s physical strength doesn’t hold any significant importance. He instead believes that the billionaire superhero could destroy him without even trying.
Joe Rogan Thinks Iron Man Could Defeat Captain America
Joe Rogan is a big Marvel buff but his love for Iron Man goes beyond just the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He even thinks Robert Downey Jr.‘s superhero could easily beat Captain America with little or no effort. While talking to comedian and actor Alonzo Bodden, Rogan mentioned how he was certain “Iron Man could f**k him [Captain America] up” if the two went against each other.
“‘Captain America has agility, strength, speed endurance, and reaction time superior to any Olympic athlete who ever competed.’ Lol. ‘The super-soldier formula that he has metabolized has enhanced all of his bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency.’ Oh he ain’t sh*t. Iron Man could f**ck him up.”
Iron Man
Rogan even stated how Steve Rogers was just someone who happened to be “really strong” whereas Tony Stark had actual superpowers.
“You can’t f**ck with Iron Man with that bullsh*t a** set of skills. You’re just a really strong dude.”
With that perspective, sure Iron Man would be the easy winner. But only if it were that simple.
Iron Man vs. Captain America – Who Would be the Winner?
It’s been more than 6 years since Marvel’s Civil War was released, yet there hasn’t been a clear-cut answer to whether Iron Man could defeat Captain America or not. The 2016 movie decided to not pick any winners and go ahead with a neutral ending instead. While Iron Man seemingly won the physical battle, that too more ambiguously than precisely, there was no actual outcome of the conflict that remained between him and Cap. That’s to say, the Sokovia Accords were never really addressed, save for a vague brush upon the subject.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers
To this date, there are only theories floating around about which team truly came out victorious. But neither of the actors playing the superheroes nor the MCU have given a concrete result to hold onto. In terms of powers and abilities though, as Rogan noted, Iron Man is an easy winner, especially since his armored suit was enhanced spectacularly post Civil War. So while Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers might be able to win in a hand-to-hand combat against Iron Man, he doesn’t stand a chance against his superpowers.
