Tiger Woods appeared in only five events this year. The Open Championship in July was the last time he teed off, where he missed the cut. He had assured about appearing at the PNC Championship in December referring to it as the fifth major for him. However, things might have taken a turn for him. The 15x major winner went through lumbar spine surgery in September, making it his sixth back surgery. The surgery was successful, and he is hopeful to get back at golf quickly, but it surely will require him some time.
Now, this surgery has made his and Charlie Woods’s appearance at the family affair that PNC Championship is, an uncertain thought. Notably, Woods’s name is missing from Hero World Challenge too, but there are free spots left in the field, one of which he might fill. While Charlie Woods might not make it to the field, it looks like his 13-year-old rival will, that is Will McGee, Annika Sorenstam’s son. The young golfer has already stolen the spotlight too.
The PNC Championship took to their official Instagram account, in collaboration with Annika Sorenstam, officially announcing their presence at the family tradition. “Family. That’s what this event is all about. #CelebrateFamily #PNCChampionship”, they wrote in the caption.
This was just a few weeks after his father, Mike McGee, shared his enthusiasm after his son competed at the Lake Highland Prep Golf match earlier this month. “I enjoyed following @will_mcgee2 in his Lake Highlands golf match today. He doubled (1st of season) the last for a 39 at @thecountrycluboforlando. Before he started, we saw @jimthorpegolf who played with my dad, and I told him Will has grandpa’s short game, and he said, “Then my man is destined for success,” wrote the loving father.

Last year, the duo managed to garner a lot of attention from the golf world due to a rather emotional moment. Looks like this year is going to be no different, as the fans share their excitement at being able to witness team Sorenstam play at the 2024 PNC Championship.
The golf community has already bought tickets to watch the Sorenstams play
Annika Sorenstam and her son Will McGee shot a total of 67 in the scramble format at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. The pair finished tied for 11th place at the 2023 PNC Championship. This year, the fans are rooting for them to take home the trophy as one of the fans commented, “I love watching you guys play. Let’s go for the victory this year!!!”
Another could not withstand their excitement for the upcoming event. The PNC Championship is scheduled to be held from December 19–22, 2024, which is almost two months away from now. However, they have already bought the tickets for the show. “So excited!! Got my tickets already!!” they wrote.
The Sorenstam duo was teary-eyed after their last hole. Will told his mom to take her time so that they could soak it all in as he did not want the moment to end. The PNC Championship was the “best week” of this year and life as he claimed.
This left the fans emotional too and got them all the more excited for the duo to have the time of their lives at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando this year too. Taking to this, one of them commented, “Cannot wait to watch Team Will McGee and Annika!” While another simply wrote, “Team Annika and Will! 👏”
At the Lake Highland Prep golf match, Will McGee doubled his eighteenth hole for a 39 on the course; this was his first double of the season, and the 13-year-old left all the fans impressed by his performance. Taking to that, one of them even wrote, “Early favorites…Will is the not so secret weapon.”
