From the tiny Tonttata tribe to the towering elephant of Zou, the characters and creatures of One Piece come in every shape, size, and color.
For over two decades, One Piece has built a vast cast of characters. From the tiny Tonttata tribe to the towering elephant of Zou to mysterious beings fans have only caught a glimpse of, the characters and creatures of One Piece come in every shape, size, and color.
While giants are the most overtly giant race, plenty of other people have done a surprisingly good job at rivaling them in scale and power. Both Fish-Men and Merfolk are well known to grow to great size, but even some humans have managed to give the more titanic races a run for their money.
Updated on April 13th, 2023, by Maria Remizova: Famous for their bizarre proportions and diverse sizes of its inhabitants, the world of One Piece introduces no shortage of ginormous characters looking down upon regular humans. Luffy and his crew came across numerous formidably tall individuals from different species and races during their travels across the Grand Line. We’ve updated this list to include even more of the tallest characters in One Piece.
This article contains spoilers for the One Piece anime.
15Jerry
22’2″
Jerry is unlikely to win any popularity contests among One Piece fans, even if they remember he existed. As one of the most obscure characters, he does manage to at least have one notable trait: his massive 22-foot height, standing slightly higher than even Whitebeard.
Appearing during the ride on Puffing Tom during the Water 7 arc, Jerry is one of the earliest tall-humans to be introduced, though they would become a staple as the series went on. Despite his height, his appearance was brief, only showing up long enough to fight and lose against Sanji after quite literally tying himself in a knot.
14Bartholomew Kuma
22’7″
The cybernetic killing machine once known as Bartholomew Kuma is certainly an impressive foe. Even before his transformation by the mysterious and sinister Dr. Vegapunk he was infamous as one of the Warlords of the Sea and confronted the Straw Hat Pirates on multiple occasions.
While Bartholomew Kuma has primarily been an antagonistic force, especially after the Pacifista were created in his image, he did also seek to protect the Thousand Sunny after the events of the Summit War arc. He went as far as to personally guard the ship during the time skip despite his mind supposedly being wiped by his final transformation.
13Gecko Moria
22’8½”
As a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and captain of arguably the world’s largest ship Thriller Bark, Gekko Moria has proven a force to be reckoned with whenever he has appeared.
Given his mastery over zombies and undead, some of his strange appearance may be due to his twisted meddling. But even in youth he was decidedly diabolic looking, and the exact question of what he is has never been fully answered.
12Kaidou
23’3½”
While his presence was mentioned as early as the Thriller Bark arc, it wouldn’t be until much later that the feared Kaidou finally made an appearance during the events of Dressrosa with his devil fruit’s true power being hidden until the expedition into Wano Country.
With a massive and heavily muscled body as well as a pair of long horns, Kaidou cuts an intimidating figure in any scene he appears in. He’s even more intimidating when he chooses to unleash the devastating power of his legendary Devil Fruit, transforming into a sky-spanning azure dragon.
11Black Maria
26’11”
One of the feared Tobiroppo of the Beast Pirates, Black Maria stands taller than even her captain Kaido. Bold and affectionate towards her crew, she has built up significant goodwill with them despite her high ranking position and powerful Devil Fruit.
Her Kumo Kumo no Mi, Model: Rosamygale Grauvogeli is unique in several ways, being not only one of the few Zoan-type Devil Fruit to use the scientific name of its respective animal but also allowing her to turn into a centaur-like hybrid form rather than the more common anthropomorphic shapes that Zoan fruits tend to grant.
10Charlotte Linlin/Big Mom
28’10½”
Currently the tallest human yet introduced, Big Mom stood tall even as a child, towering above many of her peers among the orphans of Elbaf in her youth and possessing a stature that could compete with some full-blooded giants. The story of her growth has never truly been explained, though she did have a distinct penchant for the Elbaf dessert known as Somla in her youth.
Her strange Soru Soru (literally “soul soul”) no Mi Devil Fruit has allowed her to create the friends she lacked as a youth, imbuing objects with fragments of stolen souls to aid in her control of Whole Cake Island and much of Totto Land as well.
9Neptune
40′
A giant even among Merfolk, Neptune rules as the loud and jovial king of Ryugu on Fishman Island. A caring father to princess Shirahoshi, he has a habit of shouting his name at random. With a knowledge of the existence of the Void Century and the Poneglpyhs, he seems to know more than his casual exterior might let on.
His daughter Shirahoshi is notable for having inherited the powers of the ancient weapon Poseidon. She has the ability to call and control fearsome sea kings at will, letting the bearer even sink islands and devastate fleets should they desire. As of yet, Shirahoshi has only used her power for good.
8Yeti Cool Brothers
139’5″
The Yeti Cool Brothers, Rock and Scotch, were the enigmatic hitmen for hire introduced during the Straw Hats run-in with Caesar Clown at Punk Hazard. They come from a mysterious type of giants, covered in snowy fur from head to toe.
While their height isn’t as formidable as other giants, the Yeti Cool Brothers proved they can still give regular humans a run for their money by ambushing Zoro, Sanji and Brook. Yet, in the end, their statue still didn’t help them against Luffy and Franky’s combined force.
7Little Oars Jr.
196’10”
While not as massive as his ancestor, Oars, Little Oars Jr. still towers even over most of his kin. His nickname is a clear understatement, as he is at least three times the size of a typical giant.
Unlike his terrifying predecessor, Little Oars Jr. is a genuinely caring person and a loyal follower of Whitebeard, notable for his efforts to save Ace during the Summit War Saga. Despite leading his own crew – the Little Pirates – Little Oars Jr. shared a tender friendship with Ace.
6Hatcha
219’2″
A member of the Numbers in the Beasts Pirates, Hatcha was subjected to gigantification experiments on Punk Hazard before he was recruited by Kaidou. While the experiments failed, their results granted Hatcha his intimidating statue and giant-like lifespan.
His weapon of choice – a massive spiked club – suits his size quite well, allowing Hatcha to utilize his advanced physique in battle. Yet, his uncontrollable swings are known to cause tons of unnecessary collateral damage, as showcased during his drunken attack on Luffy, Zoro, Kid, and Killer.
5Oars
219’10”
An ancient giant from over 500 years before the start of Luffy’s adventure, Oars lived on as a colossal undead monstrosity controlled by Gecko Moria during the Thriller Bark arc. Possessed of great strength and even greater size, Oars was intimidating even to other giants.
His descendant Little Oars Jr. would prove to be a more helpful force. While not quite as large as his ancestor, he was a courageous member of the Whitebeard Pirates and proved his tremendous power during the attempt to save Portgas D. Ace from execution.
4Wadatsumi
262’5″
A tiger blowfish Fish-man with an astounding 262’5″ height at his smallest, Wadatsumi can inhale huge quantities of air to grow even larger, becoming capable of crushing fleets just by surfacing and simply rolling over most foes he finds himself facing.
First seen during the Fish-man Island arc, he went toe to toe with the equally large kraken Surume during an encounter with the Straw Hat Pirates. He would later prove an ally during Whole Cake Island, risking his life alongside the Sun Pirates to protect the Thousand Sunny from Charlotte Oven’s attacks.
3Sanjuan Wolf
590’6″
Surprisingly shy and playful for a person who was supposedly “erased from history” for his crimes, Sanjuan Wolf stands a staggering 590’6″, or almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, and may still be growing due to the effects of an unknown Devil Fruit he ate in his youth.
Despite his Devil Fruit, he can still navigate the seas with relative ease, as his amazing height allows him to simply walk along the ocean floor in most places. In his time since the escape from Impel Down, he has been an on and off member of the Blackbeard Pirates, currently acting as captain of the seventh ship of their fleet.
2Laboon
1312’4″
Out of all the creatures in One Piece, Laboon is one of the biggest and friendliest. A giant whale and former companion of Brook and the Rumbar Pirates, Laboon remained persistently loyal to his friends even 50 years after their separation.
His single-minded devotion caused Laboon to harm himself, hitting his giant head against the Red Line’s resilient rocks. Thanks to Luffy, Laboon stopped stubbornly hurting himself in an effort to break the barrier, trusting the Straw Hats to eventually come back and reunite him with Brook.
1Zunesha
21.75 miles
By far, the largest character introduced in One Piece so far is Zunesha, a ginormous Naitamie-Norida elephant who carries the island of Zou on its back. Reaching for the skies at 21.75 miles high, Zunesha easily rivals some of the New World’s islands in size.
Due to an unspecified crime it committed in the past, Zunesha can’t do anything but aimlessly wander the seas, hosting the population of Zou on his enormous body. However, some suspect that the elephant’s path might lead to a specific destination.
