Ariana Grande seems to be having a great time filming a scene for the movie Wicked, which was adapted from the musical alongside co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Ariana’s on-set image comes after her co-star Cynthia Erivo — who plays the future Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba — was also spotted in an all-green makeup set as she filmed an outdoor scene.
Ariana’s outfit featured an upper body covered in swirls of lavender, along with purple and light blue colors.
The 29-year-old pop superstar and actress is occasionally seen smiling happily with 35-year-old British actor Jonathan Bailey.
This also appears to be the first time Bailey has filmed an adaptation of the popular stage musical, a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.
Ariana’s dress also had fibers mixed to make it sparkle in the light. Her dress featured decorative details at the shoulders of frills that stood erect in the air, as well as transparent sleeves studded with sparkling satin needles.
The dress has a leg made of flowing tulle with many needle beads. Ariana also completed her outfit with a silver tiara, which consisted of swirling flowers that delicately rested on her long blonde hair that was tucked back and down to her shoulders.
Jonathan looked like a prince in a dark blue uniform with yellow accents and fringed shoulder bridges, and a second jacket of the same tone, squeezed over one shoulder. Accompanying it was a pair of matching green pants with tall black boots, and dark hair parted.
Oscar winner Jeff Goldblum, Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang, Adam James, Keala Settle and Bronwyn James also join the cast.
Last month, Goldblum revealed that he was cast in the series while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I just starred in the movie Wicked. I shouldn’t be talking about that. But you should watch our witches, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, they’re both very good,” he said.
He and Ariana seem to get along so well, the two can’t stop beaming and chatting with each other between scenes.
The Thank U, Next singer laughed so much that she leaned over in front of her and held Jonathan’s hand, before he leaned forward to whisper something in her ear.
Ariana is one of the main cast members of Wicked. She played Glinda, known as the Good Witch of the North in the classic 1939 film, an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s famous book.
Jonathan appears as Fiyero Tigelaar, who is engaged to Glinda in the play and film Wicked, although his true love for Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) pulls him away from her. Later, he became the character known as the Scarecrow.
He rose to prominence with his role in the popular crime drama Broadchurch. The most recent lead role was as Anthony, a 9th Viscount Bridgerton in the Netflix romantic drama of the same name.
Fans of the popular Broadway musical will have to wait to see the full story told through the film, as Wicked will be split into two parts.
The first film is currently set to hit theaters on November 27, 11, with the second chapter set to premiere in December next year.
The film gained instant popularity after its debut in 2003, and works all over the world followed suit. But it wasn’t until 2012 that a Wicked movie was exploited.
The onset of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic once again slowed production in filming.
The original star of the theatrical stage, Kristin Chenoweth spoke very proud of Ariana for taking on the role of Glinda.
The actress revealed the pop star was “really scared” by the idea of taking on the role in the upcoming two-part adaptation.
The popularity of the stage musical would have made the adaptation of Wicked understandable, but it was strangely delayed for years. Another objective reason is because of the onset of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which once again slowed down production with delays in filming.
