Ever since actor Daniel Craig announced that he will no longer play James Bond, fans have been wondering who will take the mantle now. A lot of celebrities are interested in playing the role, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson once explained that he would love to play the British spy as his grandfather also starred in a James Bond movie. However, he doesn’t quite meet the requirements so the chances are slim. A James Bond casting director, Debbie McWilliams, previously explained what they are looking for in the next James Bond. The creators also hinted that their choice won’t necessarily be a famous actor as it could also be a normal citizen.
The Rock said he wants to play James Bond
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
In November 2022, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in an episode of Esquire’s Explain This video series and explained that he would like to play James Bond,
“Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery. Very, very cool. I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”
The actor’s grandfather was Peter Maivia, who played a minor villain who fought against Sean Connery.
The actor won’t play James Bond
Dwayne Johnson
However, The Rock will not get this opportunity as Debbie McWilliams, a James Bond casting director, recently shut down rumors that claimed that actor Dwayne Johnson will be playing the role of James Bond in the next movie,
“He has to look like a regular guy – you can’t be Dwayne Johnson. He has to have a great physique – it demands a high level of fitness – but he shouldn’t stand out in any situation.”
It seems like The Rock’s big muscular frame is stopping him from becoming James Bond. Several actors have been linked to the role including, Henry Cavill and Regé-Jean Page. The Rock is well-known for his physique and even once revealed that he was told that his WWE persona won’t help him land roles in movies but he proved it wrong.
