6 Good Places But Being Destroyed By Tourism

1

Well much as tourism is a lucrative industry, it also leads to overcrowding and destruction of natural resources. Here are some destinations being destroyed by holidaymakers

2. Venice, Italy

Italy’s most charming city has begun sinking, and the thousands of tourists gracing its canals are only making things worse. During summers, there are over 80,000 visitors a day, which makes accessing its tourist attractions near impossible. Many tourists flock here on cruises, the traffic of which impedes waterways and historic sites.

3.Angkor Watt, Cambodia

Cambodia’s ancient Khmer temples draw thousands of tourists each year, which is also leading to the deterioration of these heritage structures. Though tourism funds are being invested into the restoration of Ankor’s sites, wall graffiti and damage still plagues the highly frequented tourist spot. Try including some lesser known regions in your itinerary. Volunteer tourism is a good option if you want to explore the beauty of Cambodia while still contributing to the local community.

4.Phi Phi Islands

After being featured in the Hollywood flick “The Beach”, Phi Phi Islands has made its way into the bucket list of several travelers. And of course the growth in tourism drew resort developers by the hordes, which has made land preservation a huge challenge. The other popular Thai island Koh Tachai was shut indefinitely for allowing the surroundings to rehabilitate.

5.Barcelona

The authorities are clamping down big time on tourism related activities by banning large tourist groups from hotspots such as Boqueria Market, fining errant tour operators and banning unlawful rentals. A startling recent survey revealed that locals are more worried about tourism over poverty. Go there during the shoulder season to mitigate the impact of tourism and offer a steady flow of visitor income.

2Cuba

Cuba’s infrastructure is not growing faster than the swarm of tourists who are making the most of this breathtakingly beautiful and colorful destination. Overpriced restaurants, lack of accommodation options and the economic load on locals is causing tourism to be a more painful than gainful experience for Cubans. To spread out the load more evenly, go to places other than the moretouristy Havana. Try opting for homestays over hotels.
