The couple were buried face-to-face and holding hands in the ancient way in the Siberian village of Staryi Tartas. The two skeletons are dated to 3,500 years old i.e. from the Bronze Age.
In addition to the two skeletons of the two couples above, archaeologists also discovered tombs in which children were also buried with adults.
Archaeologists are trying to find out the answer to these mysterious skeletons and they believe that the results of a DNA test will provide the answer.
One hypothesis is that this burial method points to the beginning of the nuclear family model (two-generation family consisting of parents and children).
However, there is another opinion that after the husband’s death, the wife will be killed and buried with her husband.
“It is natural and understandable to see a child and an adult buried in the same grave. They can be related by blood such as father and son, mother and daughter or aunt. However, when two adults are buried together like this, we can come up with many theories,” said Professor Vyacheslav Molodin, research director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology in Serbia.
