De Bruyne’s equalizer against Real is invalid

The referee did not detect that the ball had gone all the way before Man City scored a 1-1 equalizer against Real Madrid on the morning of May 10.

In the 67th minute, Rodri successfully cut the ball to open an attack to bring back a 1-1 equalizer for Man City. Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan did not make mistakes, but the mistake was in the situation that took place a few dozen seconds earlier. The ball went all the way before it was saved by Bernardo Silva.

The referee team did not detect this situation and let the match continue. beIN Sports used 3D technology to check and determine the ball completely went out of bounds. Commenting on the ball, former coach Arsene Wenger said: “The referee team should clearly review Real’s goal.”

If it was a throw-in, Man City wouldn’t have had a chance to get on the ball, meaning Real wouldn’t have conceded a goal. “Los Blancos” received an unfair goal, thereby failing to keep the lead for the second leg away from home.

Coach Ancelotti strongly reacted but could not change the decision of referee Soares Dias. He even received a yellow card. “I saw Silva clearly let the ball go all the way but I don’t understand why the referee didn’t check the VAR,” said coach Ancelotti.

After the match, coach Ancelotti calmed down and praised the performance of the two teams: “It was an interesting match. We struggled in the first half but played much better in the second half. Real controlled the ball very well. When Man City dominated the game, we also defended proactively. The attacking players also performed well.
