Photos show firefighters’ sweet rescue of a Pit Bull Mix named Jimma, after the poor pooch got her head stuck inside a tire rim.

A 20-year-old woman alerted Station 5 firefighters to the situation on Friday evening around 5:15pm, the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) said in a news release.

The concerned woman described the female dog as a neighborhood stray she feeds and sees twice daily, according to the fire department.

The IFD wrote: ‘When the woman came home from work this evening, she found the dog stuck in the tire which sits as junk on a neighboring property.

‘Having no idea how long the dog had been stuck, she loaded it into her car and drove to the neighborhood firehouse.

‘The dog who appeared to be stable was visibly shaken but not confrontational.’

According to the fire department, Station 5 members tried using liquid soap and oil for ten minutes, but couldn’t get the Jimma out.

Station 14’s tactical team later arrived on scene to help free Jimma.

Jimma was occasionally ‘skittish’ as firefighters attempted to help her and keep her calm, according to the IFD, which said firefighters tried but failed with small vehicle extrication tools.

However, they soon found a way to save her.

The IFD wrote: ‘Using a tool that cuts brake pedals on cars, firefighters were able to make several substantial cuts in the rim that then allowed them to use the spreaders to further open the rim.

‘It took firefighters over an hour to get the rim removed.

‘The dog’s airway was never compromised and the dog appeared otherwise ok.’

Jimma was later taken home by the 20-year-old woman, the fire department said.
