TTO – Famous actress Angelina Jolie unexpectedly arrived in the city of Lviv, western Ukraine, to meet refugees on April 30. She is currently a special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) but she visits Ukraine on a personal basis.
Lviv city official Maksym Kozytskiy said Angelina Jolie had come to talk to refugees, including children, who were being treated for their injuries after the rocket attack on the Kramatorsk city train station in early April. Jolie is currently a special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
“She was touched by the children’s stories,” wrote Maksym Kozytskiy on Telegram. “One little girl even told Jolie about her dream.” Mr. Kozytskiy said the Hollywood actress visited a boarding school, talked to students and took pictures with everyone. She also “promises to come back”.
Jolie also met with evacuees at Lviv Central Train Station, as well as volunteers dedicated to providing medical advice and support to refugees.
“We were very surprised by her visit. But since February 24, Ukraine has shown the world many surprises,” Kozytskiy wrote. UNHCR global communications director Joung-ah Ghedini-Williams told CNN that “Angelina Jolie came to Ukraine as an individual.”
Angelina Jolie is the leading female star of American and world cinema.
While still living with actor Brad Pitt, the couple that was once considered the most suitable couple in modern American cinema had visited Vietnam many times, both for tourism purposes and for Vietnamese adoption procedures.
They adopted a baby boy named Pax Thien who is now 19 years old. Pax Thien (Vietnamese name is Pham Quang Sang) was adopted by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in 2007 in Ho Chi Minh City.
