Botswana is a landlocked country in South Africa, which suffers from frequent floods every year, creating a thriving habitat for animals. It is a harsh place for animals, but there are still people there. Abandoned and traumatized dogs need help. The story of the paralyzed dog Botswana has touched the hearts of millions.
The poor little dog had no choice but to drag for kilometers to seek help because of a ʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ spine. Luckily for the unfortunate puppy, he was saved by a group of volunteers under the direction of Susanne Vogel, who were working in the North Okavango region at the time. They were involved in a project aimed at reducing confrontation between humans and elephants. The team was surprised to see the poor puppy crawling into their isolated encampment when they looked up.
The little dog approached the volunteer team when she spotted them and asked for help, later named Poppy. She almost had to crawl into our research camp because her hind legs were immobilized. She couldn’t walk, but Susanne said, “She was so full of love and always begging for help.”
The crew immediately assessed Poppy’s condition. The dog’s spine was unfortunately ʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ and paralyzed dog, so it was clear that it was in an accident. After bathing and feeding the injured animal, they rushed it to the clinic. However, there is no good news for them.
During a physical examination, it was found that Poppy was only seven months old. The young dog will benefit from sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ, but she has little or no chance of survival.
On the other hand, the researchers remain optimistic. They acknowledge Poppy’s differences. Although she couldn’t risk sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ, Poppy started therapy and rehabilitation activities to help her legs get stronger. Volunteers also work hard to raise money for Poppy’s medical expenses and ongoing care. Animal lovers everywhere jumped at the chance to help save Poppy’s life after they humbly appealed for help. Although Poppy is still too weak for sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ, she doesn’t seem to feel any pain.
Poppy was ecstatic when she received her own set of wheels to race.
After countless hours of physical therapy, the brave dog finally gained strength and can now stand on all fours. Also, the gorgeous, animated puppy has finally been put into a permanent home. Her real parents, MaryBeth Hastings of Washington, D.C., brought her back to the United States. The joy in Poppy’s life with her family has just begun!
