Although Dwayne Johnson bid farewell to the wrestling game back in 2019, he never quite parted ways from his athletic side because if there’s one thing The Rock is renowned for, it’s his unbridled love for fitness. Having a solid sports background and a flourishing career in wrestling will do that to you.
But while WWE garnered him immense stardom and innumerable victories, The Rock also lost quite a lot during his triumphant career, especially in terms of the mental and physical ramifications of wrestling. In fact, the muscled giant ended up going into surgery after a wrestling match, the consequences of which rendered him unable to build abs even after all the Herculean strength that he possesses.

The Brutal Reason Why The Rock Doesn’t Have 6-Pack Abs
Dwayne Johnson has been devoted to fitness and the prospect of being in shape for probably the entirety of his life. Courtesy of his remarkable agility and strength, the Black Adam star had an immaculate career in WWE before he set out to pursue Hollywood’s golden glory during the 2000s. But even after retiring as a professional wrestler, The Rock never left his inner fitness geek behind. From vigorous workout routines and balanced diets, he’s made it a habit of keeping his health in check. How else do you think he manages to look this dashing at 50?
Despite his immeasurable dedication toward fitness, however, the millionaire actor still doesn’t have six-pack abs. Not that he needs any such embellishments whatsoever, but the question of why Johnson never flaunted his abs seemed to be on the top of a lot of fans’ minds. And turns out, it’s a repercussion of a grave injury that he sustained during a WWE fight.
The Rock is a devoted gym freak
In a WIRED interview with Emily Blunt, the Jungle Cruise star was asked if there was something “wrong” with his abs, the disrespectful question making him divulge the story behind him not having a 6-pack. “That’s so f**ked up. There’s nothing wrong with them,” he said. “No. Here’s the thing. I think because, on Instagram, all these Instagram fitness models have these incredible six, eight, 12, 24-pack stomachs…”
“But the problem was, which a lot of people don’t know, I tore, in a wrestling match. I tore the top of my quad off my pelvis. It went ‘Bang’ in a wrestling match. And then what that did, it caused a chain reaction, and it tore my abdomen wall. So then I had three — I had to do a triple hernia emergency surgery of a tear, a tear, and a tear.”
While he doesn’t have six-pack abs, he is blessed with a “five and a half” or “sometimes a four and a half pack.”
The Rock’s WWE Accident Was Horrifying
During WrestleMania 29, when The Rock went in the ring against John Cena, the latter ended up body-slamming so brutally, that Johnson was afraid he’d had a “bone stick out” because of the sheer impact. Given the severity of the situation, the Red Notice star had to get operated on almost immediately after the match.

The injury was so dire that it not only affected his abdomen but also held dangerous consequences for his pelvis. And after surgically fixing his abdominal muscles, they obviously didn’t look the same as before, which is why they don’t appear as “perfect abs” anymore. “So, these f**king as**oles who are Googling ‘What’s wrong with The Rock’s abs,’ well, it’s called a wrestling match for 45 minutes,” Johnson stated bitterly. “And the top of my quad popped off my pelvis, and the pain I went through…”
