The first Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage is revealed, teasing a team up between Arthur Curry and Orm to take on the villainous Black Manta.
Warner Bros. Discovery unveils the first Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage. With the launch of DC Studios, a new DC Universe is on its way as the DCEU will get rebooted after The Flash movie this summer. However, one film still to come at the end of this year is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, with Momoa back once again as Arthur Curry.
As CinemaCon is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. Discovery was present to promote several of their upcoming films, with the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as one of them. During their presentation, the studio unveiled new Aquaman 2 footage from the highly anticipated sequel. The footage centers on Black Manta as he takes on the role of the villain in this story.
The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage also highlights the teamup between Arthur and his brother Orm, as Ocean Master takes on a new role in the film. With the surface world not being under attack, Arthur is pushed to become a leader more than ever. Outside of the focus on the brothers and Black Manta, Amber Heard’s Mera was only shown briefly in the footage.
Everything The Aquaman 2 Footage Reveals About The Final 2023 DC Movie
One of the biggest takeaways from the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage is that the sequel will focus more on Arthur and Orm’s brotherly dynamic. The film is leaning heavily into the complex relationship that was established in the first Aquaman movie. When it comes to the amount of attention paid to Black Manta, as he wields the Black Trident, the footage is making it clear they are going all out for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s villainous character.
The lack of Heard’s Mera is coming months after the actress lost her defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp, as there have been constant discussions about how it would affect her Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom role, if at all. While the CinemaCon footage may have only featured her briefly, it doesn’t necessarily reflect whether Mera has a big storyline in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It’s possible future trailers will showcase Mera more, but that remains to be seen.
What will be interesting to follow with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is what happens to the iconic Justice League character in James Gunn’s DC Universe. It has so far been unclear whether the movie is going to be Momoa’s final time playing Aquaman. Depending on how Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom performs financially and critically, that may be what fully determines if Momoa has a future in the new DC Universe.
