Suri Cruise may not be following in her parents’ footsteps, but she’s doing just fine.
In 2012, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced that they were getting divorced after five years of marriage. It was a highly publicized split, putting their daughter, Suri Cruise in the middle of it all.
The rumor was that the Dawson’s Creek alum had left the Mission Impossible star due to his involvement in the Church of Scientology. “Scientology considers Katie a suppressive person which is an enemy,” actress and former Scientologist, Leah Remini told The New York Post.
She added: “I knew Katie when she was in [Scientology] and she seemed very indoctrinated into Tom’s world, but as time went on, I understood why she did what she did to protect her daughter.”
Fast-forward to now, Suri is all grown up and is said to have a net worth of $500,000, plus a monthly income of $16,000. Here’s how she makes that much money without following in her parent’s footsteps.
How Old Is Suri Cruise Now?
Suri is now 17 years old. In 2017, Holmes told Town & Country that it was important for her to give her daughter a “stable, innocent childhood” despite having famous parents. “This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be,” said the All We Had actress.
“My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now. It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood,” she continued. “I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed.”
via: TwitterIn the same interview, Holmes admitted that it was a little “heartbreaking” watching her daughter grow up to be so independent. “Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That’s a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it’s heartbreaking,” she said.
“You want them to stay with you forever, but they’re these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need — and then they’re going to go. And that’s going to be very, very sad for me.”
What Does Suri Cruise Do For A Living?
Suri is currently not employed. Unlike most celebrity offspring, she hasn’t really entered the industry alongside her parents. But recently, Holmes revealed to Glamour that her daughter lent her vocals for her 2022 film, Alone Together, and the upcoming Rare Objects.
“I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her,” she said of Suri. “But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people.”
via: TwitterShe continued: “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”
As for Suri’s monthly income, she most likely gets it from allowances. Following her parents’ divorce, her dad was ordered to give her annual child support of $400,000 until she’s 18. “They give her an allowance on the card and she can spend it on whatever she wants,” a source for Grazia said in 2017.
Someone also witnessed her take her parents to dinner back then. She “ordered [a] waiter over and handed over her card before paying the tip in cash – four times the total amount of the bill.”
What Is Tom Cruise’s Relationship Like With His Daughter Suri?
Suri was raised solely by her mom since 2012. She hasn’t been seen in public with her dad ever since. But until Cruise’s divorce from Holmes in 2012, he seemingly had a great relationship with his daughter. In 2006, Cruise said of Suri’s birth: “It was everything that we wanted it to be. … It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable.”
But later, he also confirmed that Holmes left him to “protect” their daughter from Scientology. When asked about it during a deposition for a libel lawsuit he filed against a tabloid, he said it was “offensive” and that “there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.” He then added: “Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes.”
Cruise was never granted custody of Suri but was given visitation rights for up to 10 days a month. However, an Us Weekly source claimed that he doesn’t see her often due to her not being a Scientologist. “Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to. He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist.”
