If a football award exists then PSG and Argentina star Lionel Messi has probably won it, so he could afford to gift one of his many, many trophies to a team-mate.
Lionel Messi’s ridiculous trophy collection has grown so big that he’s given one away to team-mate Leandro Paredes.
Aside from all the achievements the 35-year-old has had for club and country throughout his iconic career, Messi has also racked up countless personal gongs based on his goals, assists and performances.
His CV certainly wouldn’t fit onto one A4 piece of paper and he’d probably struggle to find a mansion big enough to home every piece of silverware he’s received, even with all his millions in the bank.
So it’s understandable that as well as giving some away to various museums, including an exclusive area dedicated to him in Barcelona’s at the Camp Nou, Messi has also gifted one to PSG and Argentina colleague Leandro Paredes.
The midfielder was recently interviewed while giving a tour of his home in Turin, where he’s currently living while spending the season on loan at Juventus.
As he showed them his wall of awards and memorabilia, including a ball from the Qatar World Cup signed by all of his victorious team-mates, the journalist was shocked to discover Messi’s La Liga 2020/21 Best Player award on the shelf.
When quizzed on how it ended up in his possession, Paredes simply explained: “He arrived in Paris, I asked him if he would give it to me and he gave it to me.”
Paredes may have counted himself fortunate to have been shown such generosity by Messi, as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner once wanted to “kill him” when Barcelona played PSG in the Champions League.
Speaking to Caja Negra, last year, he explained: “He got angry, because I had made a comment to my team-mates and he heard me, and he got angry.
“He became really angry. He f***ed me up. It was bad. He wanted to kill me and I wanted to go home. Now, when the conversation comes up, we talk about it and laugh, but he was really angry at the time – he wanted to kill me!”
