Nothing sets the interwebs afire quite like a Kardashian-Jenner hair/makeup/anything change—especially when it involves something a little more dramatic and a little more permanent than a new wig. In this specific case, we’re talking about tattoos—after all, there’s nothing that’s going to last longer than ink. And with the tiny tattoo trend still going strong, it seems the Kardashian-Jenners prefer getting several teeny-tiny ones over one or two large ones. It’s not as if it’s gotten old, though: The debut of new Kar-Jenner ink still tends to send fans into a tizzy as they try to decode the design’s meaning (unless, that is, the sister in question volunteers the significance herself). But with so many tattoos to keep track of, it’s hard to remember which one belongs to which Kar-Jenner.
So we put together a quick guide to help you keep up with the Kardashian-Jenners’ ink—and we’ll continue to update it as their impressive gallery of body art grows. Read on and see how up-to-date you are on your Kardashian-Jenner tattoo history.
Kylie Jenner
The youngest Jenner now has the highest ink count, with four tiny red tattoos and three black ones. She debuted her first, a tiny red heart on her upper arm, at her 18th birthday party, and she followed it up with another one on her lower hip that says “sanity” (spelled phonetically).
About a year after she got the above tattoo, she added the word “before” in front of sanity so that it now reads “before sanity.” Her motive behind the addition isn’t clear, but fans of Kylie suspect it has something to do with her upbringing in the spotlight.
In February 2016 she revealed that she had gotten another new tattoo: her grandmother’s name, Mary Jo, written in her grandfather’s handwriting on her arm.
As for the next addition, in May 2016? Jenner took a trip to West 4 Tattoo in NYC with her then-BFF Jordyn Woods to get matching letter M‘s on the inside of their fingers.
More recently, Jenner showed fans a super-small black butterfly on the back of her ankle—identical to one in the same place on her boyfriend, Travis Scott.
As for that T she originally got for now-ex Tyga? As of 2017, it had officially been inked over to read “L.A.” in cursive instead.
In May 2019, Jenner added to her body-ink collection yet again. This time her tattoo was in honor of her daughter, Stormi, whom she welcomed with Travis Scott in February 2018. She inked the name “Stormi” in her tricep. Scott also got the same, which Kylie apparently tattooed herself.
Kendall Jenner
All three of Kendall’s tattoos are tiny and hidden. She got the first two—two white hearts—as a BFF tattoo with Hailey Baldwin back in 2015. But we had to wait until April 2016 for her to finally reveal the meaning behind them. (Not sure how you feel about best-friend ink? This story might change your mind.)
She wrote on her app at the time: “I really like tattoos. Right now I have two: They’re both in white ink on my two middle fingers. The one on my right hand is a full heart to represent an angel and my left is a broken heart—kind of like the devil side. Hailey [Baldwin] and I have matching ones on the left side but hers is red (see pic). I definitely want more eventually, I just don’t know what I would get right now. I don’t have anything in mind. You’ll just have to wait and see!”
And then, true to her word, she got another one just a few months later in July 2016: the word “meow” stamped on the inside of her bottom lip. This time, she decided to go with something a little less meaningful and a little more fun.
“There’s no real meaning behind it,” Jenner wrote on her blog after celebrity tattoo artist JonBoy, who works at West 4 Tattoo in New York City, posted a photo of his art on Instagram. “I just wanted to be able to say that I have a tattoo ‘on my face!'”
Confronted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show two years after the fact, the model revealed it was a spontaneous decision fueled by alcohol. “It was literally the first thing that came to my mind,” she said. “I don’t know, just my drunk thoughts.”
Khloé Kardashian
When Khloé was 16, she got a back tattoo (along with Nicole Richie) of a cross with the word “Daddy.” Fast-forward to 2015, when she got it removed and captured the moment on her ‘gram with a not-even-sad-a-little-bit caption: “Not so cute anymore I should’ve listened to Kim when she told me ‘you don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.’ Bye-bye bumper sticker!!!”
She replaced it with the phrase “I love you” in her dad’s handwriting on her wrist. She also reportedly had “L.O.” on her hand, for Lamar Odom, removed.
